You will find many different methods and packages of software to clean up windows systems across the internet. The following steps are what I use on computers that appear to be infected with malware, including browsers that are redirecting to undesirable websites. Some steps may not apply to you.
- mbam free version > scan > uninstall.
- adwcleaner > scan > reboot.
- internet options > remove cookies.
- chrome > remove cookies.
- firefox > remove cookies.
- edge > remove cookies.
- disk cleanup.
- windows repair > updates.
- install webroot.
You can find free anti-malware solutions but I recommend webroot because of the low cost and it being highly effective. It is cloud based so it is not a resource hog unlike some competitors such as Norton and McAfee.
If you found this post useful, consider using the following link to purchase a webroot subscription.
